BLOOMINGTON – The District 87 School board is lightening the load on Bloomington High School seniors facing the prospect of finishing their studies remotely because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The board voted unanimously Wednesday night to reduce graduation requirements this school year for second semester seniors, including eliminating final exams. Finals typically make up 20% of the permanent grade. Instead, the running semester grade will be counted, according to our news partner HOI ABC.

Also, seniors only have to take classes they need for graduation, instead of also taking elective courses.

The district wants to give its seniors more flexibility and allow them to focus their time on college or career plans.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
