BLOOMINGTON – A woman in her 30s with no known underlying health conditions has died from COVID-19 complications, according to McLean County health officials.
McLean County Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight said the woman was not associated with a long-term care facility.
“This is a terrible reminder of the seriousness of this virus and the importance of taking steps to protect everyone around you,” said McKnight. “While it has often been older individuals with underlying conditions that are hospitalized, young healthy individuals are not immune to complications from this disease.”
There have been 39 COVID-related deaths in the county.
Local health officials Thursday reported 104 new cases of coronavirus as the rolling positivity rate went from 5.8% to 7.1%.
“Our daily case counts in McLean County have been increasing, and our positivity rate points to the prevalence of the virus in our community,” McKnight said. “We currently have over 500 active cases, which we haven’t seen since right before and right after our previous surge.”
There are 12 people currently hospitalized and the rest are in home isolation.
McKnight said hospitalizations and deaths are a lagging indicator, with increases in both often seen several weeks after surges in new cases.
52 additional people were released from isolation, now 4,162 have recovered.
