SPRINGFIELD – Twelve hours after U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) declared victory, his opponent made a concession speech.
Appearing for supporters and the media via Zoom, Springfield Democrat Betsy Dirksen Londrigan said, “For our team, (Tuesday) night did not turn out the way that we planned or the way that we worked for, but 2020 has kind of been like that, hasn’t it?”
Londirgan praised her staff and volunteers and urged Central Illinoisans to pay attention to what happens in Washington on health care, the issue she says pushed her into the 13th District race in the first place, because of the expense, red tape, and fear her family experienced during her son’s serious bout with Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
Londrigan, who came close in the 2018 race but not close this year, did not speculate as to why she lost, nor did she mention any future plans.
