SPRINGFIELD – Don’t bet on learning all of the election results Tuesday night.
“It may take a couple of weeks. I hope we don’t get like the 2000 race, when we got the U.S. Supreme Court involved,” said Kent Redfield, a political science professor at the University of Illinois Springfield. In terms of being prepared for such a result, “Illinois is pretty good; other states, it may be a long week.”
Redfield notes the national parties have quit funding suburban races in favor of the closely-watched 13th District, in which Springfield Democrat Betsy Dirksen Londrigan almost defeated U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) two years ago and now is in for a rematch. He says that race and the proposed graduated tax amendment are the ones to watch in Illinois Tuesday.
