SPRINGFIELD – While Illinois restaurateurs fume – and make plans to ignore the governor’s order to close their dining rooms – people who run other businesses are pleased.
At Gov. JB Pritzker’s daily coronavirus briefing Monday, he bragged about what’s available through the state’s Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
“We’re paying special attention to minority-owned businesses, which – let’s be honest – have faced underlying obstacles prior to the pandemic, which have made this crisis all the more damaging,” said the governor. “To date, nearly half our awards have gone to minority-owned businesses, 39 percent have gone to women-owned businesses, and 49 percent have gone to disproportionately impacted areas.”
The state recorded 6,222 coronavirus cases with twenty more deaths.
