NWS: Elevated fire danger for Central Illinois

LINCOLN – The National Weather Service says there is an elevated fire danger for most of central Illinois until 7 p.m. Friday.

Westerly winds will increase throughout the day, reaching peak gusts this afternoon, according to the NWS. Wind gust of 30 mph will be possible, providing the potential for quick fire spread.

Outdoor burning is not recommended and there is a higher potential for field fires during harvesting. The NWS says do not casually discard cigarette butts and matches.
