BLOOMINGTON – A 46-year-old man is in critical condition after being punched in the head at a tavern, according to Bloomington police.
Bloomington police were called Thursday around 12:15 a.m. to a tavern in the 300 block of N. Morris Avenue for a cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious man who was bleeding from his head, inside of the tavern. Officers rendered first aid and called for Bloomington fire to respond. The victim was initially transported to Carle-BroMenn Emergency Medical Center in Normal but was later life-flighted to Carle Hospital in Champaign/Urbana due to the seriousness of the his head injuries.
During the investigation, officers learned that a suspect had punched the victim during a verbal dispute inside the tavern. Officers located and arrested Donald Westerfield, 58, of Bloomington without incident.
Westerfield faces charges for aggravated battery/public place and disorderly conduct. He was taken to the McLean County jail and no bond information was available.
