Bloomington bike rider seriously hurt in crash

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Police said a bicycle rider suffered serious head injuries Tuesday afternoon when the bicycle crashed into a traffic light pole on the city’s east side.

The accident happened about 3:25 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Hershey Road and East Empire Street.

Police said they were told the 56-year old Bloomington man turned to look in back when the bicycle went off the road and hit the light pole.

Police said the man was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana for treatment of serious head injuries.
