SPRINGFIELD – Seniors’ organizations want the graduated income tax amendment to pass.
Don Todd of the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans says he’s tired of lies: “Lies like the insidious ads on the (anti) fair tax ad, where a sweet elderly grandmother says she will no longer be able to live in Illinois because her retirement will be taxed,” Todd said during a virtual news conference. “The truth is just the opposite: with passage of the ‘fair tax,’ she and 97 percent of Illinois citizens will see their taxes remain the same or decrease.”
Both sides are using the retirement tax as a threat of what will happen if the other side wins.
The constitutional amendment to change Illinois’ income tax from flat to graduated needs sixty percent of the vote to pass.
