BLOOMINGTON – The McLean County Health Department Thursday reported two COVID-related deaths, bringing the number of lives lost to 22.

Both patients were women, one in her 30s and the other in her 60s, both with underlying health conditions, according to MCHD Administrator Jessica McKnight.
“Hospitalizations are a lagging indicator,” said McKnight. “It is often anticipated that an increase in reported hospitalizations and deaths could follow several weeks a surge of new infections.”
MCHD announced nine new coronavirus cases Thursday, as there are 226 active cases in the county. 10 people are currently hospitalized, two in intensive care, and the rest are isolating at home.
23 additional people were released from isolation, now 2,960 have recovered. The county’s rolling positivity rate went up to 4.1%.
“The progress that we have seen over the last two weeks with a decrease in newly reported cases is testament to what this community can accomplish with a unified response when we work together toward a common goal,” McKnight said. “It is important that we all take this virus seriously and continue to do everything we can to keep each other safe. We cannot wait until we see a new surge of cases to take action to control the spread.”
