BLOOMINGTON – McLean County’s rolling positivity rate has decreased drastically over the last week, but local health officials said there is still community spread of the virus across all age ranges.
The county’s rolling positivity rate was 9.4% on Sept. 11 and as of Friday it has dropped to 5%, according to McLean Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight.
“However, we are seeing community spread of the virus across all age ranges and have added 273 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the last seven days,” said McKnight.
More than half of the new cases over the last week have been people under the age of 30.
MCHD on Friday reported 50 new cases of coronavirus. There are 1,245 active cases, seven are currently hospitalized, one in intensive care, and the rest are isolating at home.
An additional 71 people have been released from isolation, now 1,811 have recovered. There have been 19 COVID-related deaths.
“We are approaching the six-month mark from McLean County’s first confirmed positive COVID-19 case in March,” McKnight said. “We understand that this has been a trying and difficult time, and many are experiencing ‘COVID Fatigue’, but the fight against this virus will be a marathon not a sprint.”
