BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man suspected of holding a lit butane torch to a woman’s face during a domestic violence attack earlier this month can be released from jail if he’s able to post bond.
Alan Marshall, 44, was initially held without bond while court officials conducted a risk assessment required under “Diane’s Law,” which attempts to protect domestic violence victims.
Associate Judge Scott Kording on Monday decided Marshall can be released if he comes up with $7,535 for his bail. Marshall would be required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, and he can’t have contact with the victim, or go to her residence.
Prosecutors filed three felony charges against Marshall after authorities said he held the lit butane torch to her face, threatened her with a knife, and prevented her from leaving their residence for several hours by blocking the front door with a dog chain and a mattress.
The alleged abuse happened September 4, according to court documents.
Police said Marshall and the woman were treated for injuries at a local hospital.
He remained jailed Thursday night.
