SPRINGFIELD – Hundreds of motorcycles roared through Springfield Sunday morning for an annual observance of 9-11: the “Ride to Remember,” starting at the Harley-Davidson dealership in town and ending at the 9-11 memorial on the Capitol grounds.
“The motorcycle community is made up of all different walks of life,” said Dellann Stutsman of Auburn. “You have doctors riding next to mechanics, and the only thing they care about is the fact that they’re on two wheels.
“It’s a great equalizer.”
The Springfield fire chief, Allen Reyne, noted that his department will next year possibly hire its first firefighter born after the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks — and that, just as his generation learned about World War II and JFK, it’s important to keep the stories of 9-11 alive.
