BLOOMINGTON – The rolling positivity rate in McLean County continues to increase, but the number of active coronavirus cases went down Tuesday.

The McLean County Health Department reported 71 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 1,838. There are 806 active cases, three people are in the hospital, one of those in the ICU, and 803 are isolating at home. The county’s rolling seven-day positivity rate is 10.7%.

MCHD said 109 additional people have recovered from the virus, bringing that total to 1,016. There have been 16-COVID related deaths.

“The McLean County Health Department cautions that there is a new phone scam where callers are posing as COVID-19 contact tracers try to pry credit card or bank account information from unsuspecting victims,” said MCHD Administrator Jessica McKnight. “Contact Tracers will never ask you for your social security number, bank information, or immigration status.”

Meanwhile, Illinois State University reported 51 additional students have tested positive for COVID, bringing the total to 1,023. ISU’s seven-day rolling positivity rate is 24%.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
