BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington-Normal YMCA and YWCA McLean County are trying to help families this fall as students in District 87 and Unit 5 start the school year learning at home.

The YMCA will offer “Y Academy” for students in kindergarten through 8th grade and YWCA will have its “Young Wonders” program which provide academic support during the week.

“Our goal is to support the kids as this is a big change for them not going back to school, but also parents who are working from home and are really struggling with getting their own work done and then have to make sure they are supporting their child with remote learning,” Tessa Mizell with the YMCA told WJBC’s Scott Miller.

“Children’s health, safety, and education is a priority for us,” said Melissa Breeden, Senior Director, YWCA Young Wonders. “We are happy to provide an affordable option and to work with parents/guardians to meet their needs/schedules to the best of our ability.”
