NORMAL – Connect Transit has not collected fares since March due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and that will continue until September 8.
The Connect Transit Board of Trustees on Wednesday voted to extend the suspension, which includes fixed-route bus service and Connect Mobility paratransit service.
Connect said it will continue to operate at a reduced service schedule to ensure proper cleaning of buses and facilities. Buses are cleaned, sanitized, and exchanged several times throughout the day to ensure passenger safety while riding.
Operating a reduced service schedule enables the company to continue reliable transit service safely for employees and customers, according to a news release.
People are required to wear a face covering on the bus and Connect is encouraging people to wash their hands and stay home if you feel sick.
