BLOOMINGTON – The McLean County Health Department on Thursday announced 18 new cases of coronavirus as the county continues to see an increase in the younger age ranges.

There are two people currently hospitalized and 74 are in home isolation, according to local health officials. There are 338 individuals that have recovered from the virus and there have been 15 COVID-related deaths in the county.

The county’s overall positivity rate is 2.1% while the rolling seven-day positivity rate is 2.5%.

“Like what is being seen in statewide and national trends, McLean County has seen an increase in positive cases in the younger age ranges,” said MCHD Administrator Jessica McKnight. “The highest percentage of our cases are still those 20 to 29 years old, but we have also seen cases recently among those 10 and younger.”

McKnight said there is still community spread of the virus, but recent cases have been able to identify an exposure to someone else that has tested positive for COVID.

Meanwhile, the Illinois Department of Public Health on Thursday announced 1,624 new cases and 20 additional deaths. The seven-day statewide rolling positivity rate is 3.4%.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
