BLOOMINGTON – A local organization will be distributing a grant of $12,500 to LGBTQI+ community members who have been hit financially by the pandemic.
Prairie Pride Coalition is partnering with Equality Illinois to help LGBTQI+ community members in McLean, Livingston, and DeWitt counties.
“We were sort of at a loss to know specifically what we could do,” said PPC board president Dave Bentlin. “We did a few things to help our community, but really this relief fund is a prime opportunity for us to reach out to people in our community who are really struggling.”
Bentlin said the financial support can cover things like food and supplies, rent or mortgage, utilities, and health care. He said the grant is the largest ever secured by the coalition.
“We want to make sure we reach all sectors of our LGBTQI+ community and it’s really important to make sure everyone is aware of this opportunity,” Bentlin added.
Those who are 18 or older can apply and disbursements will be awarded to qualified applicants through Aug. 25. A link to the application is here.
