SPRINGFIELD – Health care is propelling Springfield Democrat Betsy Dirksen Londrigan in her campaign against incumbent U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville). Wednesday she fought back at criticism the Affordable Care Act really isn’t that affordable.
“The Affordable Care Act was supposed to be a first step,” Londrigan said during a Zoom news conference. “It was never the end-all, be-all, and Congressman Davis and Republicans in Washington have done everything they can to weaken it. They have done nothing to make it more affordable.”
Joining Londrigan online was a recovering lung cancer patient with expensive private health insurance – who credited the Affordable Care Act with helping save her life. As the news conference wrapped up, Davis’ office sent reporters a list of six health care bills he is backing and earlier Wednesday said Londrigan’s “Medicare X” plan would cut medical funding by about $80 billion a year.
