NORMAL – Illinois State University’s Office of Admissions on Wednesday announced that freshman applying for admission for the summer or fall 2021 semester will not be required to submit ACT or SAT scores.

ISU Director of Admissions Jeff Mavros said the move is intended to reduce anxiety for students because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“In terms of preparation, we’ve had students who just haven’t had the same curriculum they might have had previously,” said Mavros.”Secondly, is honestly just the scarcity of test dates and the opportunity to have those tests administered over the last several months. For those reasons, this was something we felt like we really wanted to do to benefit students in the process.”

Mavros said for students who don’t submit a test score, the university will put more wait on GPA and will require a high school transcript to complete their application for admission. He said students will still have the option to submit an ACT or SAT score, and doing so will not affect their standing negatively.

Students without scores will be eligible to receive merit-based scholarships through the Office of Admissions and will be eligible for the Honors Program, according to the university.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
