Candy maker Ferrero has one green light on expansion if it makes that decision in the future.
City leaders voted in favor of expanding the enterprise zone at Monday’s Bloomington City Council Meeting.
Ferrero would invest up to $70 million and hire 40 to 50 workers if it decides to expand the local operation.
The broadening of the enterprise zone would bring tax incentives to the company – the primary benefit would be the savings on sales tax when it purchases building materials.
The council’s vote is one step in the expansion process as the Town of Normal, the McLean County Board along with the Ford County Board still need to give a thumbs up.
The last time the enterprise zone was expanded was last year to help Canada’s Brandt Industries grow its U.S. operations just north of Normal.
