BLOOMINGTON – The Dollar Tree at 1407 N. Veterans Parkway in Bloomington is facing a $233,255 fine from OSHA.

In documents from OSHA, it states that the three citations come from an inspection on December 13th, 2019.

The first citation is for obstructed exit routes. The document lists three areas of the store where exit routes were blocked by boxes of merchandise and U-Boats.

The memo said this is a repeat violation for Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. , citing previous violations at stores across the country including a violation from 2018 at the Morrissey Dr. location in Bloomington.

The second citation has to do with fire extinguishers. It states the stores does not have a portable fire extinguisher mounted near the stock room loading door, did not have the location identified, and was obstructed by pallets of compressed cardboard boxes.

Third, is a citation for unsafe merchandise stacking. The violation says materials were not stacked, blocked, interlocked, and were too tall creating a collapse hazard.

The second two violations are also considered repeat violations by stores in other states.

In a news release, OSHA Peoria Area Director Barry Salerno said, “OSHA will continue to use enforcement tools to ensure employers comply with their obligation to keep workers safe.”

The letter from OSHA states if Dollar Tree Stores Inc. does not pay the fines within a month, there could be interest, or other penalties. OSHA said they have 15 days to comply, contest the reports, or request an informal conference with OSHA.

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
