BLOOMINGTON – All of central Illinois remains under a winter weather advisory as a mixed bag of weather will hit the area this weekend.

The winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday. Heart of Illinois ABC Meteorologist Joe Puma says snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches is possible Friday.

Puma says snow won’t be the only factor throughout the evening.  Freezing rain will move into the area around 8 p.m.

Road conditions will likely be impacted, especially during Friday night’s commute. Up to date road conditions are available at gettingaroundillinois.com.

As we head into Saturday rain will continue, but by sunrise the precipitation should taper off, according to Puma.

It will also be brutally cold, as temps will start to fall Saturday afternoon with Sunday’s high only reaching 11 degrees.

Connect Transit will open its warming station in downtown Bloomington due to the frigid tempartures. The warming station will be open Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday from 6:15 in the morning until 10 p.m. The warming station is located in the McLean County Health Department parking lot.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
