SPRINGFIELD – Illinois State Police officials are accepting applications for the agency’s newest trooper class.
Officials announced this week that they’re looking to bring on the 132nd cadet class and have extended the deadline to apply for the summer training via the Illinois State Police Merit Board.
Hopefuls looking to join now have until Jan. 31 to apply.
The police force is looking to fill many different types of positions and they’re all well-paid.
“We have opportunities not only in patrol, investigations, motorcycle detail, K-9 – the opportunities are endless,” said Master Sgt. Hector Alejandre. “Starting salary is $60,936 for a first-year trooper.”
Applicants have to be at least 21 years old and have an associate’s degree or have completed at least 60 hours of college coursework.
The Merit Board is designed to make sure there’s no political influence involved in the hiring of state troopers.
“We’re looking for individuals who have the call for service,” Alejandre said. “They’re just looking for a new career path.”
