NORMAL – A fire damaged a home in North Normal on Sunday, killing a pet and leaving four people temporarily homeless.
Normal firefighters said they were called about 3:45 p.m to 1103 Whitaker St. in the Savannah Green Subdivision.
They found fire in the basement, and smoke damage through the rest of the house, according to NFD spokesperson Matt Swaney.
Swaney said firefighters using an oxygen mask revived a dog they rescued from the home, but they could not save a cat.
The four people who lived there were not home at the time. The American Red Cross is helping them with lodging and temporary needs, said Swaney.
He said the home is insured, but authorities do not have a dollar estimate of the damage.
The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.
