GOODFIELD – A 9-year-old is to be charged with murder in the Goodfield mobile home fire that killed five in April.

Our news partner HOI-ABC reports the juvenile is set to be charged with five counts of first-degree murder, two counts of arson and one count of aggravated arson, according to Woodford County State’s Attorney Greg Minger.

Two adults and three children, were killed in the April 6 fire at Timberline Trailer Court.

Escaping the fire were Katrina Alwood and another child.

Just weeks after the fire, Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman issued his findings, which ruled the deaths as homicides. The official cause of death, the coroner reported, was homicide by smoke inhalation.

At about 11:15 a.m. Saturday, April 6, residents could see flames coming from the engulfed trailer. At 11:55 p.m., Coroner Ruestman pronounced the five inside dead.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…
