BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington and Normal Fire are investigating how a structure fire started in the 1400 block of Madison St. early Friday morning.

Upon arrival, crews reported smoke coming from a back bedroom window.

According to Bloomington Fire, the homeowner stated “he heard a funny beeping (smoke alarm) in the rear of the house, as he made his way to the back bedroom his wife was already coming out of the bedroom with flames behind her.”

One resident was taken to a local hospital for minor burns.

The damage to the home is estimated at $50,000, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
