BLOOMINGTON – Illinois’ senior U.S. Senator is weighing in on the situation in the Middle East after recent attacks on two oil tankers.
The U.S. alleges the attacks were carried out by Iranian forces. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) told WJBC’s Scott Miller with tensions rising he believes members in the Trump administration are itching for a war.
“The point I’ve made over and over again is before we get itchy trigger fingers we need to have a conversation with the Iranians. But to think we are now in the longest wars in the history of the United States in Afghanistan and Iraq, and now they (Trump administration) want to expand an invasion into another Middle Eastern country. I think that’s something the American people should have a say about,” said Durbin.
The Pentagon announced this week that 1,000 additional troops are being sent to the Middle East to address air, naval, and ground-based threats.
