BELLFLOWER – McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder has identified the woman killed in a house fire early Sunday in far southeastern McLean County.

Yoder pronounced Angela Zimmerman, 46, of Bellflower dead at 8:01 a.m. Sunday. Preliminary autopsy results indicate Zimmerman died from carbon monoxide intoxication due to inhalation of smoke and soot from the blaze.

Sheriff Jon Sandage said in a news release that a deputy on patrol saw a home fully engulfed in flames in the 400 block of 1st Street in Bellflower at about 5:20 a.m. Sunday.

Sandage said fire crews found the woman’s body after putting out the blaze.

Bellflower, Saybrook, and Farmer City firefighters were called to fight the fire.

The fire remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and sheriff’s office.

Fires claimed two lives in McLean County in less than a week.

Preliminary autopsy results showed Judith Dawson, 76, died from inhaling smoke and soot during a fire last Wednesday in the 1300 block of Baugh Drive in Normal. The cause of that fire is also under investigation.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
