From beard to muttonchops: local barbers changing their beards for PATH Crisis

NORMAL – After a month long fundraiser for PATH Crisis, two local barbers have a new look.

Helping raise funds for PATH Crisis, Griffin Rutledge and Noah Anderson, Owner of Anderson’s classic barbershop located at 119 E Beaufort St., created a fundraiser designed around styles of beards.

“We did a fundraiser for the month of May, which is Mental Health Awareness month, where we were fundraising for PATH Crisis Center,” added Anderson, who is supporting mutton chops thanks to the fundraiser. “They let us know that they needed some new headsets so we decided to put our beards on the line, me and my other barber Griffin. We had a couple options of different beard styles and which ever one raised the most money we ended up shaving our beards that way. Mutton chops ended up being the winner.”

Through buckets with different styles of beards on them, more than $400 was donated to help PATH Crisis buy new headsets for their call center.

“With it being Mental Health Awareness Month (in May) we knew that PATH Crisis Center Operated the suicide hotline for the area and also other parts of Illinois, something just clicked about them it seemed like their really effective at the work they have done,” added Anderson. “We’ve had multiple clients that have either volunteered there or have connections with people that work there. We really just wanted to keep it local and help get the name out there to let them know that we do offer the service. We knew that they had a reputation in town for being a really effective nonprofit, so that is the reason why we chose to support them.”

Anderson added he hopes to do another fundraiser during no shave Nov.
