BLOOMINGTON – Lawyers focused on child support payments in the Kirk Zimmerman murder trial.
During opening statements, prosecutors said they believed Kirk killed his ex-wife Pam Zimmerman in November 2014 because he didn’t want to pay anymore child support.
Tuesday the prosecution called Pam’s divorce lawyer Kathleen Kraft to the stand.
Kraft supported a claim that 10 days before Pam was killed, she FedEx-ed a letter to Kirk asking him to pay about $4,000 in child support.
Kraft says the day Pam was murdered she called her, adding Pam was angry that Kirk had not responded to the letter or paid the child support.
To counter the argument, the defense said at the time of Pam’s death, Kirk was making roughly $100,000 each year and had more than $30,000 in savings.
They also said he never told Pam or Kraft that he would not pay the amount, he just didn’t get around to it.
This is the third week of testimony in Zimmerman’s murder trial.
