Bloomington – The defense in the Kirk Zimmerman murder trial tried to show the jury that a prosecution witness could not have seen him outside the office where his ex-wife Pam was murdered because she wasn’t wearing her glasses.
In court, Maria Legg had to put on her glasses to identify Zimmerman in the courtroom, and he was standing only about 20 feet away. If she had seen Zimmerman back in November of 2014, he would have been more than 50 feet away, according to news partner, WMBD-TV.
Earlier, Legg testified she was at nearby St. Luke Union Church dropping off recyclables. Legg claimed she saw Zimmerman rolling a huge plastic bag. The two locked eyes, and he ran behind a dark car, and hid there.
“When I went to the trunk of my car to get more newspapers and magazines, and when I started walking, I looked over there, to Washington Street, and the other office that has doctors and I saw him,” she said.
Legg said she was so frightened she didn’t finish her recycling and drove off.
The next day, she said her husband did not want her to call police.
Legg was crying so much on the witness stand that Zimmerman’s lawyer said she wasn’t credible because of her mental state.
This is the third week of testimony in Zimmerman’s murder trial.
