BLOOMINGTON – Jurors in the Kirk Zimmerman murder trial on Tuesday watched five hours of interrogation footage from Zimmerman’s first interview with Bloomington Police detectives after his former wife’s death.
Sergeant Tim Power conducted the initial interrogations of Zimmerman, who is charged for the 2014 murder of his ex-wife Pam Zimmerman.
In the video, Zimmerman answered questions with lengthy responses when it came to his alma mater University of Iowa, his kids, and even about the divorce agreement.
But when asked what he did the night of Pam’s death – or if he left his house that night, he paused for some time before saying, “I’m just tired, I need to recharge, I just want to see my kids.”
This angered Power who responded, “Every time we ask you about the time frame we need you to give us, you say I need to see my kids.”
Zimmerman responded, “I had a doctors appointment today where I learned I may have cancer and I want to see my kids because they just lost their mom and now they might lose their dad.”
After some time, Power finally pins down Zimmerman and asks, “Did you leave last night? Did you see Pam last night?” Zimmerman answered no to both questions.
When Power asked, “Would you ever hurt Pam?” Zimmerman chuckled a little and said, “No of course not.”
Testimony began Monday. The trial is expected to last four to six weeks.
