CHICAGO – Two Bloomington-Normal high school teachers are finalists for the 2019 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching, honoring teachers who impact school communities.

Normal West social studies teacher John Bierbaum and U-High social studies teacher Robert Fitzgerald are two of the 32 finalists for the award.

“Golden Apple is honored to recognize outstanding educators whose quality of teaching and passion for growing their students create an environment in which students are inspired to persevere and attain their dreams,” said Alicia Winckler, CEO of Golden Apple in a statement.

The statewide contest received 550 nominations from 71 counties. This was the first year the award was expanded to the entire state.

All Golden Apple Award finalists will be honored February 23 at the Golden Apple Celebration of Excellence at the Tinley Park Convention Center.
