Hazmat crew called to Illinois Capitol

SPRINGFIELD -This week, you can’t be too careful.

The discovery of a white powdery substance in a men’s room brought the Springfield Fire Department hazmat team to the Capitol Wednesday afternoon. Chief Allen Reyne said, “We have investigated it and have deemed it not a threat,” adding he did not know what the substance was.

Capitol employees were told to shelter in place until the all clear was sounded just before 2:30, ending the lockdown after about a half hour.
