NORMAL – A Normal Planning Commissioner has announced he’s running for a spot on the Normal Town Council after the longest serving council member announced he’s not seeking re-election.
Dave Shields, a 36-year employee of State Farm Insurance, has served on the Planning Commission since September of last year. Shields is the first candidate to enter the race since senior council member Jeff Fritzen announced he wouldn’t be running.
In a news release, Shields says “Normal is a special place, and I’m invested in continuing its pragmatic and progressive legacy.”
Shields graduated from Eastern Illinois University and also attended Illinois Wesleyan University. He serves on the Boards of Directors for the Multicultural Leadership Program, and Friends of the Arts. He was also a founding officer of State Farm’s Pride employee resource group.
Incumbents Kathleen Lorenz and R.C. McBride earlier announced they will seek re-election.
