A major power outage in Hudson means no school for kids at Hudson elementary school.

Unit five Director of Communications Dayna Brown said it’s the first time in all her time with the district that she’s seen two schools close in the same week from a power outage – Fox Creek in Bloomington was closed earlier this week after a power outage.

A news release from Ameran says lightning and winds moved through the area North of Normal and South of Hudson leaving 3 poles down on the line that runs between the Hudson rural substation the circuit feeding Hudson and the subtransmisson line feeding the substation.

Ameren currently has 4 crews working on these poles and circuits. Estimated safe restoration time is 3 PM today.

Customers can sign up for text messages regarding restoration progress at their account address. More information and instructions are available on Ameran’s website – http://www.ameren.com/customer-service/ameren-alerts

Students at Hudson Elementary actually made it to the bus and were headed to school before Unit Five decided to close for the day so parents were asked to make arrangements to pick up their children.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
