NORMAL – An early Saturday morning fire broke out in the basement of a Normal home, as the residents escaped without injury thanks to working smoke alarms.
The Normal Fire Department responded to 302 Augustine Way at 4:53 a.m. The homeowner told MetCom dispatchers that the house was filling with smoke as they were able to evacuate the home.
Firefighters had the main fire knocked down in about 20 minutes, but continued efforts for an hour to extinguish hot spots from the area.
No one was injured, but the residents were treated at the scene by NFD Paramedics for smoke inhalation.
NFD Investigators are working at the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
