The summer of 2018 was warmer and wetter than we usually see in Illinois.
The statewide average temperature for June, July, and August came in at 74.9 degrees, above the normal temperature of 73.6 degrees, according to state climatologist Jim Angel.
“If we look on the rainfall side of things, we also ended up being above normal. The statewide average rainfall for the summer was 14.9 inches, which is three inches above normal, the 13th wettest summer on record,” said Angel.
There were some dry spots in the state. The latest U.S. drought monitor shows abnormally dry conditions in northern Illinois and a drought in western Illinois.
