BLOOMINGTON – After a flurry of security-related incidents in the past couple of weeks at the McLean County Law and Justice Center, two deputies suffered minor injuries when a man wanted on a sex crime tried to run from them Thursday.

According to court records, Darien Davis, 28, Bloomington, was charged with two felony counts of resisting with injury on top of a warrant alledging he sexually assaulted a woman in June.

Authorities said Davis arrived at the courthouse as part of a requirement for his probation on a previous drug conviction. When Davis arrived, deputies were waiting for him in the lobby.

“As the gentleman was coming through screening, he was advised that there was a warrant for his arrest, he tried to flee the building when deputies attempted to stop him. A struggle ensued and he had to be tased to be put into custody. In the process, two of our deputies received minor injuries,” said McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage.

Deputies reportedly told Davis there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Deputies Shannon Vandalsen and Nathan Haynes both suffered hand injuries. Vandalsen also had abrasions.

Davis needs to post a $17,100 cash bond to be released from jail.

The tasing of the suspect came one day after a brawl in the Law and Justice Center lobby in which three people were arrested. In mid-july a man smuggled a folding knife past security and stabbed himself in the stomach after he was convicted of child molestation. Uniformed officers have been stationed in the lobby since then, and the U.S Marshal’s office is investigating security procedures.
