Biaggi’s serving up new restaurant on Route 9 and Airport Rd.

BLOOMINGTON – A mouth watering restaurant in Bloomington announced the construction of a new restaurant starting in the spring.

Biaggi’s Restorante Italiano, which started in Bloomington 20 years ago, announced the purchase of six acres of land on the northeast corner of Route 9 and Airport Rd.

“[The new resturant] will have a better opportunity for parking, that is our biggest issue,” said Amy Goddard, Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano Director of Marketing. “We are looking at breaking ground probably early spring and then opening in late fall [of 2019]. The relocation of Biaggi’s will include the same menu, just a new look.”

That new look features high ceilings, large 14-foot windows, garage doors that open to the patio and a large center bar.

“It will be some design features [that include] larger windows, and a bigger private event room, which is one of the things that we don’t have now,” said Goddard. “The new location will have a much larger private event space and easier accessibility. [The new location will also include] probably a patio with a nice bar area. Our current bar is not really set up for a bar activity or like happy hours, so we anticipate that we will have a larger bar and then a larger patio.”

In addition to the new restaurant, the same six acre plot will have a Mexican/Tex-Mex, full-service restaurant. Site work will begin in early August, with all three sites to be completed in phases over the next 18 months.

Biaggi’s corporate office will also relocate to the new site from their current location on Clearwater Ave.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
