CHENOA – An apparent police chase ended in a crash about 9:30 p.m. Friday in Chenoa with at least one person injured and a suspect running from the scene.
The car police were apparently pursuing rolled in a ditch at Old Route 66 and Route 24, near the Subway restaurant.
Subway employee Nick Rhode heard sirens and went outside to see what happened.
“I saw steam pouring out of the front of the car from the radiator,” said Rhode.
“I didn’t see the suspect running, but I saw people pointing towards the direction that he’d run to, and saw multiple people outside talking about what had happened.”
Police had not caught the suspect as of late Friday night.
Rhode said authorities had to cut off the car door using jaws of life to remove an injured person from the vehicle.
“They took the jaws and cut the door off the side of the car, and then had the ambulance pull up and got the gurney out,” Rhode said.
Illinois State Police and officers from Chenoa, Lexington, and Pontiac were at the crash scene, according to Rhode.
