Riley Drive triple homicide suspect to be extradited to McLean County

BLOOMINGTON – The suspect in June’s Riley Drive triple homicide was taken into custody in Milwaukee Thursday night. However, he won’t be returning to McLean County immediately.

On June 18, Sydney Mays Junior, 25, allegedly shot to death 22-year-old Nate Pena, 22, Corey Jackson, 22, and Juan Carlos Perez-Macedo, 33, and injured a four-year-old boy at 311 Riley Drive. Bloomington Police Department spokesman Elias Mendiola said Mays was arrested in Milwaukee’s west side while officers were conducting a drug investigation.

Mendiola said before Mays is extradited to McLean County for any court hearing, he must also face drug charges in Milwaukee.

“We want to reiterate that he is in custody for their drug investigation they were doing in District 3 yesterday evening,” said Mendiola. “Of course he has to go through the court system for those charges as well.”

Bloomington Police Department spokesman Elias Mendiola said Mays was arrested Thursday night on Milwaukee’s west side during a drug investigation.

“Mays will be awaiting extradition back to McLean County,” Mendiola said. “We’re unsure on the date and time of that.”

Mendiola said when Mays returns to McLean County, he will face charges of First Degree and Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Battery. Mendiola also said BPD extends its condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
