BLOOMINGTON – State Farm is hosting an opportunity to check out open jobs as the company plans to hire up to 300 people this summer.

The State Farm Career Expo is scheduled for Monday from 2 till 7 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Bloomington.

State Farm spokesman Dave Oloffson said between 200 and 300 positions are available.

“They’re not new positions,” Oloffson said. “Most of the ones we’re hiring for are entry-level positions and customer-facing positions such as claims.”

The company recently announced the elimination of nearly 900 information technology jobs in Bloomington, moving nearly 400 of them to Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix.

Information about open full-time entry-level and professional positions will be available at the expo. On-site interviews are also possible, both for current and potential openings.

“We will have representatives from each one of those departments that are hiring,” Oloffson said. “We’re telling people to come prepared like you were going to a job interview because that could happen right there.”

State Farm is encouraging candidates to apply in advance and bring several copies of their resumes. A list of openings and online applications is at statefarm.com/careers.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
