Freitag, 57, was first appointed as an associate judge in McLean County in December 2000. He was elected a circuit judge in 2008 and won retention in 2014.

Freitag was in the McLean County state’s attorney’s office as gang and drug prosecutor for more than six years and as felony chief assistant for three years until his appointment as judge. He also was an assistant state’s attorney in Woodford County and the first full-time assistant public defender in McLean County.

Freitag’s term runs through 2020. The Illinois Supreme Court may appoint someone to fill the remainder of the term.
