WEST LABANON, Ind. – A Congerville man has died in a plane crash in western Indiana.
Indiana State Police said George Irick Jr., 68, was the only occupant of the small plane which crashed late Saturday night about 75 miles northwest of Indianapolis.
According to the Civil Air Patrol, the single-engine Cessna left Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday morning headed for Peoria. The plane was expected to refuel in Danville, Ill. The Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department alerted authorities in Indiana of a possible downed plane after the aircraft dropped off the radar late Saturday.
Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to arrive on Monday. The Federal Aviation Administration is on the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
