NORMAL – A local church is preparing to host a nonprofit open house for Giving Tuesday.

First United Methodist Church in Normal is inviting people to attend the open house that will showcase a number of nonprofit agencies in the area.

Sarah Ogden with the church says the open house will give several nonprofit organizations a chance to reach out to the community.

“We have about 20 local nonprofit social service agencies coming to share information with the community about what they do,” Odgen explained.

First United Methodist Church is located at 211 North School Street in Normal.

Organizations like Habitat for Humanity of McLean County, the Humane Society of Central Illinois, Mid-Central Community Action, and Midwest Food Bank will be among the nonprofits at the event. More information is available at www.normalfirst.org.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
