BLOOMINGTON – United Way of McLean County wants to be part of your holiday giving.

Local United Way board member Mary Strack said there’s no longer a specific campaign period because the agencies they help fund work year round.

“If we don’t get all of our calls made before December, I can drop in your door in January,” Strack told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin. “You’ll say, ‘Sorry, campaign’s over,’ but it’s never over. We’re just going to raise money because the state of Illinois–we don’t have to go there–we just really need help.”

Strack said more than 36,000 residents used services provided by United Way agencies during the past year. She emphasized all money donated in McLean County stays here.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
