Central Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis met with a Bloomington-Normal group of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients friday in response to President Trump’s decision to rescind funding to the program.
Sonny Garcia, a local activist for DACA expressed disappointment about the meeting saying everything that was discussed was, “to be expected.” Garcia said the group had hoped Davis would be a champion for the hundreds of DACA recipients in the Twin Cities, as well as the 800,000 recipients in the nation.
Davis later said Congress currently has many solutions floating around, but none met his criteria for a lasting permanent solution.
“I’m not willing to comment and commit to a hypothetical support of a bill that may, or may not be, the solution,” said Davis specifically on the Dream Act.
President Trump announced via twitter on September 5th of this year Congress would need to pass some legislation in order to retain the “Dreamers” or that he would “revisit the issue.”
