BLOOMINGTON – Police say they are still seeking the public’s help about a fatal and run crash on Wednesday morning.

Police have announced the arrest of Darin Scott, 54, of Bloomington on preliminary charges of driving under the influence or alcohol and fleeing the scene of a crash. He is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Friday.

Bloomington Police and Bloomington Fire Rescue responded to the area of Morrissey Drive and Chrisman Lane at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for a vehicle accident.

The McLean County Coroner’s office said a female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner Kathy Davis is expected to release the woman’s name following an autopsy on Thursday. The male driver was taken to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center where his condition is not known.

Police say the driver of a red van drove off, traveling north on U.S. Route 150.

On Thursday, Bloomington Police arrested Jakeb C.S. Collins, 22, of Bloomington for allegedly leaving the scene of the accident after additional information was received by the public.

Police are asking anyone who might have information on the van to call Bloomington Police detective Tim Power at (309) 434-2579 or McLean County CrimeStoppers at (309) 828-1111. Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to a thousand dollars for information leading to an arrest and indictment.

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
